MSU claimed the 1986 North Central Conference women's cross country title with 59 points and Lori Kruckeberg was the top Maverick individual with a fifth-place finish...MSU won the NCAA Division II regional meet where again Kruckeberg led the way with a fifth-place finish...The Mavericks went on to finish fourth at the 1986 national championship meet in Riverside, Calif. Kruckeberg was 31st and Vonda Scholtz was 39th at the NCAA DII chmapionship as the top MSU individuals...MSU finished third at the 1987 North Central Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship meet where Lesa Pederson won a league title in the shot and Luonna Van Meveran claimed the 55m hurdles title...Pederson earned All-America honors with a third-place finish in the shot and Van Meveran was sixth in the 55m hurdles...MSU won the 1987 NCC Outdoor Track & Field team title with conference championships going to Nettie Tostrude (3000m), 4 x 100m relay (Van Meveran, Sue Harman, Shelly Johnson and Rachel Averback). Head coach Sandy Hoover was named 1987 NCC Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
