restling 1993-94 (team category) --- Under the direction of first-year head coach Jim Makovsky, the Mavericks finished second at the 1994 NCAA Division II national tournament...Junior Justin Smith earned a national individual championship at 167 and including Smith, seven members of the team were All-Americans in senior Jerold Staffacher (134/sixth), senior Jim Gale (150/second), senior Joel Thoreson (158/seventh), senior Gregg Nelson (177/fourth), junior Paul Pagel (190/seventh) and senior Brad Henry (Heavyweight/fourth)...Gale completed his career as a four-time All-American and was inducted into Minnesota State Hall of Fame in 2007...In addition to the second-place finish at nationals, Makovsky led the Mavericks to a 12-2 dual mark over the course of the season...Smith and Henry also claimed North Central Conference individual titles in 1993-94.
