Cross country All-American in 1960 (fifth at national meet)...Track All-American in 1960 (6th in 1500m at national meet)....Broke school 1500m record (formerly held by Hall of Famer Ted Nelson) with a time of 3:58....Conference champion in 1960 in the mile with a conference record-setting time of 4:17....Coached two members of MSU's 1988 national championship cross country team in Mike Schweizer and John Schuster....As the long-time cross country and track coach at Dowling High School in Des Moines, has coached three individual boys state cross country individual champions and two state championship teams....Has coached four state champion relay teams, two state individual champions, two Drake Relays individual champions and three Drake Relays relay champions.
