Mavericks Win Two Events on Day One of NSIC Championships

WEST FARGO, N.D. --- Several Minnesota State swimmers earned All-NSIC honors on the opening day of the NSIC Championships.

Minnesota State sits atop the standing after day one with 299 points, with St. Cloud State following in second place with 213.5 points.

The quartet of sophomore Hannah Denzer, freshman Gracie Bartholomew, senior Alexandra Gorecki and sophomore Sydney Pippert won the 800 freestyle relay event with a time of 7:38.55.

Sophomore Savannah Acker won the 200 IM event as she recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:04.24. Junior Gretta Hansen also claimed All-NSIC honors in the 200 IM as she finished third with a time of 2:06.82. Sophomore Teresa Collingwood took fifth place in the 200 IM as well with a time of 2:06.97.

In the 200 medley relay event, the Maverick quartet of Acker, sophomore Averi Larsen, freshman Parker Schmieding and sophomore Norah Naatjes earned All-NSIC honors as they finished in second place with a time of 1:43.18.

The 1,000 freestyle event saw sophomore Kaylie Gibbs secure All-NSIC honors as she took second place with a time of 10:24.92. Maverick freshman Lauren Neis followed in seventh place with a time of 10:47.95 as well.

Larsen claimed All-NSIC honors in the 50 freestyle as she posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 23.48. Bartholomew took sixth place in the 50 freestyle as well with a time of 23.99.

The NSIC Championships continue on Thursday with the swimming prelims set for 10 a.m., with the 3-meter diving prelims set to follow at 1:00 p.m. The finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.
