Des Moines, Iowa – The #17
th-ranked Minnesota State men's outdoor track & field team had 26 student-athletes record top-eight finishes at the Jim Duncan invitational.
Junior
Lorenzo Jones was one of many Mavericks to claim the top of the podium at the invite, jumping a personal best of 15.11 m (49' 5.7") in the triple jump. The jump – which is the ninth-best in Division II this year - provisionally qualifies Jones for nationals Jones as well as moving him to seventh on the all-time list at Minnesota State. Freshman teammates
Camden Combs and
Anthony Borom kept pace finishing third (13.71 m, 44' 9") and fifth (13.4 m, 43' 9.6") respectively. Combs' jump was a personal best.
Continuing in the jump dominance, sophomore
Aiden Buendorf placed first in high jump with a jump of 2.09 m (6' 8.5"). This personal best ranks him 11th in the nation and provisionally qualifies him for nationals. Also grabbing podium spots were sophomore
Jacob Ziebarth and freshman
Jory Peters with jumps of 1.90 m (6' 2.3") to rank sixth and seventh respectively, along with senior
Caleb Cowles placing seventh with a jump of 1.85 m (6' 06").
In the long jump, junior
Naishaun Jernigan finished in first place after jumping 7.19 m (23' 5.8") and ranking in the top-40 nationally. Combs finished second with a jump of 6.94 m (22' 7.6") while senior
Reece Shannon placing third with a jump of 6.74 m (22' 1.1").
Junior
Alex Berg led the way in pole vault with a vault of 4.80 m (15' 7.4") to take second and rank within the top-30 nationally. Not far behind were sophomore
Jed Hansen and freshman
Austin Frank to take fourth and fifth respectively. Both athletes marked vaults of 4.50 m (14' 7.6") and recorded personal bests.
To finish field events, junior
Tommy Kucera had a shotput throw of 15.96m (52' 3") to place sixth at the invite and rank within the top-50 nationally.
Moving to the track, senior
Justus Adams recorded a time of 15.41 to place sixth in the 110m hurdles.
Senior
Ben Schmied won the 800m dash with a time of 1:53.77 while sophomore
Marvin Dure finished third in the 400m with a time of 49.64. To finish out the dashes, a quad of Mavericks finished within the top-eight for the 100m dash. Placing second was sophomore
Steven Marks (11.13) followed closely by junior
Prince Nti placing third (11.14) and sophomore
Armondo Colome (11.15). Not far behind in sixth was junior
Nicolas Sharma (11.23).
In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore
Adam Bohm recorded a personal best time of 9:41.75 to place fifth. Fellow Maverick
Carter Owen placed sixth right behind Bohm. The junior finished in 9:47.81, also a personal best.
The 4x400m relay saw action from freshman
Thomas Rosengren, Dure, sophomore
Kyler Bade, and freshman
Jack Raverty. The group finished in second with a time of 3:17.96.
Minnesota State will compete in their first in-state meet of the season at the M City Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., on Wednesday, April 19th.
