EMPORIA, Kan. --- The Minnesota State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up day one of the NCAA Championships Thursday evening.
In total four Mavericks earned All-American First Team honors on Thursday, including
Miranda Lauvstad,
Jordin McGee and
Aubri Brown from the women's team and
Jalen McGee from the men's team.
The NCAA Championships continue on Friday.
Women
Miranda Lauvstad earned All-American honors in the long jump event as she took second place with a jump of 6.27m (20-7). Lauvstad's second place finish in the outdoor long jump is the best finish in team history, passing
Makayla Jackson's third place finish in 2022.
Jordin McGee also earned All-American honors in the long jump as she took seventh place with a jump of 5.96m (19-6.75). Her finish is MSU's fifth highest finish in the outdoor long jump event.
Lauvstad also finished the day in third place in the heptathlon standings with 3,450 points. She trails West Texas A&M's Esther Conde-Turpin (3,593) and Pittsburg State's Blakelee Winn (3,527). Lauvstad finished first in the high jump (1.72m), second in the 200m (24.17) and third in the 100m hurdles (14.09).
The hammer throw event saw
Aubri Brown become the fourth Maverick in team history to claim All-American honors as she took sixth place with a personal best throw of 57.65m (189-1). Her sixth place finish in the hammer throw tied the team's highest finish set by
Lily Beneke back in 2025.
Dorcus Opoku also competed in the long jump event as she finished in 17th place with a jump of 5.68m (18-7.75).
As a team, the Mavericks recorded 13 points towards the overall team standings.
Men
Jalen McGee claimed All-American honors in the long jump event as he finished in third place with a jump of 7.59m (24-11). This is the 15th time in team history that a member of the men's track and field team has earned All-American honors in the outdoor long jump. McGee's third-place finish is also MSU's highest finish in the event since 1993 when Eric Johnson also finished in third place.
In the prelims of the 400m hurdles,
Rinaldo Moore set the standard as he took first place with a personal best time of 51.02.
Marenono Opiew finished in 12th place with a time of 52.19 also. Opiew would earn All-American Second Team honors for his efforts.
In the 400m event,
Quinton Ellis finished in 17th place with a time of 47.32.
The 4x100 relay team of
Robert McGhee,
Kenjuan Hampton,
Jalen McGee and
Qai Hussey just missed the cut as they took ninth place with a time of 40.30, earning All-American Second Team honors.
As a team, the men recorded six points the overall team standings.
