MANKATO, Minn. --- Six members of the Minnesota State men's cross country/track and field team have been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team for their efforts in the classroom and on the track and field.
Paul Lins,
Keaton Wattier,
Abagotte Opiew,
Marenono Opiew,
Erek Ross and
Evan Laughridge were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. The CSC Academic All-American teams will be announced on July 14.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically. They also have to have at least a 3.50 GPA. In addition, a student-athlete must have a top-50 individual performance at the NCAA regional in cross country or have a top-50 regional ranking in a single event (indoor or outdoor) on the track and field team.
A junior from Lodi, Wis.,
Paul Lins posted the 12th best time in the indoor 800m (1:52.51) in the central region. He also ranked 15th in the indoor mile (4:13.01) event. Lins owns a 3.97 GPA and is majoring in computer science.
A senior from Osmond, Neb.,
Keaton Wattier earned a pair of All-American Second Team honors this season. In the 60m hurdles, he took 11th place (8.01) at the NCAA Indoor Championships. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Wattier took 10th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.14). Wattier owns a 3.64 GPA and is majoring in marketing.
A transfer student from Worthington, Minn.,
Abagotte Opiew finished 19th in the triple jump (14.59m, 47-10.5) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this past season. He also claimed All-NSIC honors with a second place finish in the indoor triple jump (14.99m, 49-2.25) at the NSIC Championships. Opiew owns a 3.91 GPA and is triple majoring in sport management, exercise science and mathematics.
A transfer student from Worthington, Minn.,
Marenono Opiew earned All-American Second Team honors as he took 12th place in the outdoor 400m hurdles (52.19) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He was also a member of the Mavericks 4x400 relay team to earn All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as they finished fourth with a time of 3:06.44. Opiew owns a 3.94 GPA and is triple majoring in sport management, exercise science and mathematics.
A sophomore from Wausau, Wis.,
Erek Ross earned three All-NSIC honors this past season. He took third place in the 3,000m event (8:30.66) and second place as a member of the DMR with a time of 10:09.59. At the NSIC Outdoor Championships, he took third place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:26.58 as well. Ross owns a 4.00 GPA and is majoring in psychology.
A sophomore from Prior Lake, Minn.,
Evan Laughridge recorded the 23rd best throw in the outdoor shot put in the central region this past season with a throw of 16.02m (52-6.75). Laughridge owns 3.96 GPA and is majoring in marketing.
