BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- Minnesota State's
Hayden Bills and
Hugo Albanese, along with head coach
Mike Turgeon, have claimed NSIC season honors for their efforts during the outdoor season.
Bills was named the NSIC Field Athlete and Newcomer of the Year, while Albanese was named the NSIC Freshman of the Year. Turgeon garnered NSIC Coach of the Year accolades.
A sophomore from Rosemount, Minn.,
Hayden Bills won both the discus (54.21m, 177-10) and the shot put (18.96m, 62-2.5) events at the NSIC Championships. His 20 points at the NSIC Championships were tied for first. He had previously been named the NSIC Field Athlete of the Week three times.
Bills will compete in both the discus (59.35m, 194-8) and shot put (19.08m, 62-7.25) events at the NCAA Championships. He ranks second in Division II in both events.
A freshman from Cherbourg En Contentin, France,
Hugo Albanese won the high jump at the NSIC Championships with a jump of 2.08m (6-9.75). He owns the 14th best jump in the high jump (2.10m, 6-10.75) in Division II and will compete in the NCAA Championships.
Head coach
Mike Turgeon claimed his eighth consecutive NSIC Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year honor as he guided the Mavericks to their eighth consecutive NSIC Outdoor championship since his arrival in 2018. A total of 14 Minnesota State men's track and field athletes will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The NCAA Championships will be held at Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan., from May 21-23.
