Mavericks Earn More All-American Honors on Day Two of NCAA Championships

EMPORIA, Kan. --- The Minnesota State men's and women's track and field teams continued to earn All-American honors on day two of the NCAA Championships.

The NCAA Championships conclude on Saturday.
 
Women

After two days, Minnesota State is tied in second place with Colorado School of Mines in the team standings with 22 points. Pittsburg State sits atop the team standings with 39 points.

Miranda Lauvstad became the fifth Maverick in team history to earn All-American honors in the heptathlon event as she finished in third place with a score of 5,542 points. Day two saw her finish third in the long jump (5.84m), 10th in the javelin (34.52m) and 11th in the 800m (2:27.17). Her third place finish also ties the highest finish in the heptathlon in team history previously set by Donna Tiegs who finished third in 1981.

Elise Jensen earned All-American honors in the discus event as she took eighth place with a throw of 49.24m (161-6). She is the second Maverick in team history to earn All-American honors in the discus in back-to-back seasons joining Katie Taylor who previously did so in 2021 and 2022.

A pair of Mavericks claimed All-American honors in the triple jump. Ghada Hamdani earned All-American First Team honors as she took seventh place with a jump of 12.56m (41-2.5). Lillian Washington finished 11th with a jump of 12.20m (40-0.5) to earn All-American Second Team honors. This marks the fourth straight season for Washington, and third straight season for Hamdani, where they have earned All-American honors in the outdoor triple jump.

The 100m hurdle event saw a pair of Mavericks earn All-American Second Team honors. Jordin McGee posted a time of 13.72 to finish in 12th, with Esaba Okwaramoi following right behind in 13th with a time of 13.75.

The 4x400 relay team of Grace Hambel, Kenyatta Grate, Brianna Shroyer and Grace Obour finished in 14th place in the prelims with a time of 3:47.24.
 
Men
After two days, Minnesota State sits in ninth place in the team standings with 11 points. Grand Valley State leads the team standings with 44 points.

Sophomores Hayden Bills and Dylan Gross each claimed All-American honors in the discus event. Bills took sixth place with a throw of 53.82m (176-7), with Gross following in seventh place with a throw of 53.79m (176-5). Bills and Gross and the seventh and eighth Mavericks in team history to earn All-American honors in the discus.

Hugo Albanese earned All-American Second Team honors in the high jump event as he recorded a personal best jump of 2.10m (6-10.75).

Kenjuan Hampton earned All-American Second Team honors in the 200m event as he finished in 16th place with a time of 21.17.

A quartet of Mavericks, including Hampton, Rinaldo Moore, Kerdel Moses and Keaton Wattier competed in the prelims of the 110m hurdles. Hampton (13.87) and Moore (13.95) advanced on to the finals of the 110m hurdles as they finished in fifth place and seventh place, respectively. Moses earned All-American Second Team honors as he finished in ninth place (14.01). During Wattier's 110m hurdle run, he was interfered with and as a result he will get to re run the event again at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. If he finishes with a time of 13.99 or faster, he will compete in the finals on Saturday evening.

The 4x400 relay team of Marenono Opiew, Hampton, Moore and Qai Hussey advanced to the finals as they took seventh place in the prelims with a time of 3:07.91.
