Mankato, Minn. --- The #17 Minnesota State Mavericks scored a decisive team victory in the Massive Meet #1 with its total of 193.5 points, far surpassing runner-up #14 Colorado Mesa. A total of 13 teams scored points in the event, with the Mavericks gobbling up nearly 40% of all available points.
MSU's final running event of the day was arguably its most impactful as the Distance Medley Relay team put up a provisionally qualifying unadjusted time of 9:58.65 to win the event. That raw time currently ranks 11th in the nation, and was the fourth-best time in school history. Making up the relay team were sophomore

Tanner Maier.
Junior
Carter Aguilera saved his best for last in the weight throw, heaving the implement a season-best 18.58 m (60' 11.50") on his sixth and final throw of the competition to leapfrog into first place. With that result, Aguilera also moved up to 24th nationally in the weight throw. Sophomore
Thomas Spoehr finished in third (16.90 m; 55' 5.5"), with sophomore
Zachary Shaner and freshman
Nathan Gribble both going for 16.21 m (53' 2.25") to claim sixth and seventh, respectively.
Mavericks took four of the top five spots in the pole vault competition, led once again by junior
Carson Dittel's event-winning mark of 5.01 m (16' 5.25"). Sophomore
Jedidah Hansen took second by virtue of his career-best height of 4.76 m (15' 7.25"), which is also a provisionally-qualifying mark. Sophomore
Austin Frank and
Alex Berg both checked out of the event at 4.46 m (14' 7.50") to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
A pair of MSU sophomores tied for the top spot in the high jump as
Aiden Buendorf and
Slade Heald cleared 2.02 m (6' 7.50"). Freshman
Braxton Stewart tied for fifth in the event after exiting the competition at 1.92 m (6' 3.50").
The title for the 400-meter dash went to Maverick senior runner
Rashion Walker (49.08), who edged runner-up and teammate freshman
Qai Hussey (49.09) by 0.01 seconds. Freshman
Thomas Rosengren claimed an eighth-place finish in the event with his time of 51.18.
The 800-meter run was won by MSU freshman
Maquanet Collins in squeaker, with his season-best time of 1:58.21 edging the runner-up by 0.33 seconds. Fellow freshman
Caden Speikers also had a season-best mark in finishing fourth with a time of 2:00.39.
Minnesota State got three runners through to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, and junior
Renald Pierre led the Maverick contingent in the race as he took second with his time of 8.10. Senior
Justus Adams took third (8.21), with junior
Abel Christiansen finishing fifth (8.39).
The 200-meter dash saw senior
Kenry Atubel turn in a career-best effort in the 200-meter dash, with his time of 21.97 good for second in the race and up to 13th in the MSU all-time record book. Freshman
Brock Unger claimed a seventh-place finish with his time of 22.87.
In the triple jump, MSU had four of the top six finishers, with sophomore
Onyekachi Ukaobasi leading the way in second place with a mark of 14.87 m (48' 9.5"). Sophomore
Lorenzo Jones was right behind in third (14.40 m; 47' 3"), with freshmen
Anthony Borom (13.75 m; 45' 1.5") and
Camden Combs (13.54 m; 44' 5.25") taking fifth and sixth, respectively.
Four Mavericks qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash, and they ended up taking third through seventh respectively, led by senior
Eddie Blackwell's career-best and provisionally-qualifying time of 6.85. Right behind Blackwell was junior
Armando Colome (6.86) in fourth, followed by sophomore
Steven Marks in fifth (6.89), and redshirt freshman
Trey Vaval in sixth (6.90).
Senior
Reece Shannon turned in MSU's top performance in the long jump by placing fourth with a leap of 6.34 m (20' 9.75"). In the shot put, junior
Tommy Kucera notched a sixth-place finish with a mark of 15.62 m (51' 3").
In the 3000-meter run, sophomore
Adam Bohm's career-best time of 8:55.18 was good enough to take fifth place, with fellow sophomore
Carter Owen placing seventh with his effort of 8:58.44.
The Mavericks return to action at Myers Field House on Saturday as they host Massive Meet #2 at 10:00 a.m.
