MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. — Minnesota State (3-1) secured decisive victories against Southwest Minnesota State University (226-72) and Concordia-St. Paul (212-86) Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota State dominated the meet with standout performances in multiple events. Junior
Natalie Freeman led the way in 1-meter diving, scoring 264.85 points to secure first place, while freshman
Kennedy Clements finished second with a score of 200.75. The team's A relay in the 200-yard medley also clinched victory with a time of 1:48.35, showcasing the collective efforts of sophomore
Savannah Acker, sophomore
Averi Larsen, freshman
Parker Schmieding, and sophomore
Norah Naatjes. In the 100-yard backstroke, Acker finished first with a time of 57.50, further contributing to the Dragons' strong showing.
In individual events, sophomore
Hannah Denzer delivered a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.41, while sophomore
Kaylie Gibbs excelled in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in 11:07.69. Freshman
Jessica Paulsen claimed the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.56. The team capped off a successful day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:37.74. These performances underscored the Mavericks' prowess across various disciplines, ensuring a decisive victory over the Mustangs.
Freeman secured first place in the 1-meter diving with a score of 264.85, demonstrating consistency after her 232.70 performance in a previous meet. She also finished first in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 232.70.
Acker led the 200-yard medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:48.35 and later dominated the 100-yard backstroke clocking in at 57.50. She also excelled in the 400-yard freestyle relay, contributing to the team's first-place finish with a split of 54.19.
Gibbs claimed victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 11:07.69, and showed competitive spirit in the 200-yard individual medley, timing at 2:22.32.
Paulsen delivered an impressive performance in the 100-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 1:08.56 and contributed to the team's success in the 200-yard medley relay with a split of 30.82, helping the B team to a second-place finish.
Larsen showcased her speed in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 24.44, and was instrumental in the win for the 200-yard medley relay team with a swift split of 19.53.
In their next event, the Mavericks will face off against Gustavus Adolphus and UW-Stevens Point on October 25, 2025. The competition will be split between two locations, with diving taking place at Highland Pool in Mankato, Minn., and swimming events held in St. Peter, Minn. The event is set to commence at 1:00 p.m.
