Minnesota State Women’s Swimming and Diving Team Claims Third NSIC Championship

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team claimed its third NSIC Championship in program history Saturday evening as it finished with 1,079.5 points.

MSU has previously won the NSIC Championship during the 2017-18 and 2020-21 seasons.

Head Coach Nathan Owens was named the NSIC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. Kate Flynn was named the NSIC Swimmer of the Year, becoming the first Maverick to receive the honor since Emily Green did so back in 2014.

Kate Flynn won the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.11, while Ella DeFever finished second with a time of 51.57. Flynn and DeFever both posted provisional qualifying times, along with Elise Mishmash who finished sixth in the event with a time of 52.06.

Anja Enervold won the 200 backstroke event with a provisional qualifying time of 2:01.27.

In the 400 freestyle relay event the team of DeFever, Mishmash, Enervold and Flynn took first place with a time of 3:25.88.

Katie Streiff took third place in the 100 IM with a time of 57.95, while Kayla Rinderknecht finished fourth with a time of 58.62. Kailyn Arps earned a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke event also with a time of 2:20.28.

Sydney Hanson, Ayla Taylor and Aspen Warnygora also notched provisional qualifying scores in the 1-meter diving event. Hanson finished fourth with 408.60 points, with Taylor following in fifth with 400.30 points. Warnygora finished sixth with 391.35 points as well.

Sienna Sirek-Kreye paced the Mavericks in the 1,650 freestyle event with an eighth place finish with a time of 18:05.61.

The four-day NCAA Championships begin on Wednesday, March 9 and will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The field will be announced on Wednesday, February 23.
