Minnesota State Women’s Hockey Faces Bemidji State for Final Series of 2017

What's On Tap: Minnesota State women's hockey faces Bemidji State in a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series for its final series of 2017, this weekend. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:07 p.m., on both Friday and Saturday.

Last Time on the Ice: The Mavericks (3-14-1, 1-9-0-0 WCHA) split a two-game nonconference series with Lindenwood last weekend at Verizon Center. The Mavericks set a season high in goals in a 5-4 win on Friday, before losing the series finale 4-1 on Saturday.

Reaching 50: Senior forward Hannah Davidson (4-2--6) had her best weekend of the season – tallying goals in both of Minnesota State's games with Lindenwood. She also added an assist in the Mavericks' 5-4 win over the Lions on Friday night for her first multi-point performance of the season. In addition, Davidson recorded her 50th career point with her goal against Lindenwood on Saturday. She leads all current Mavericks in career goals (22), assists (28) and points (50). Davidson is the 18th Maverick to reach the 50-point plateau.

Phenomenal Freshman: Freshman center Brittyn Fleming (3-10--13) is the Mavericks' team leader in both assists (10) and points (13) this season. She recorded her first career game-winning goal in Minnesota State's 5-4 win over Lindenwood on Friday evening. She scored the decisive goal — unassisted — on a breakaway with 1:30 remaining in the third period.

Kondas' First Collegiate Goal: Freshman defenseman Jessica Kondas (1-1--2) scored her first career goal in Minnesota State's 5-4 win over Lindenwood on Friday night. Kondas' first collegiate goal could not have come at a bigger moment for the Mavericks – tying the game at 4-4 with 6:20 remaining in the game and setting the stage for freshman forward Brittyn Fleming's (3-10--13) game winner.

Mighty McLaughlin: Junior forward Jordan McLaughlin (6-6--12), who leads the team in goals and is second in points, recorded one goal and one assist for two points in Minnesota State's 5-4 win over Lindenwood on Friday night. It was McLaughlin's second multi-point performance of the season – after tallying two goals and one assist for three points in the Mavericks' season-opening win (4-1) at Lindenwood on Sept. 29. McLaughlin's six goals, six assists, and 12 points this season are all career bests. She also leads the team with two game-winning goals in 2017-18.

Power-Play Specialist: Sophomore defenseman Jordan Jackson (3-4--7) leads Minnesota State in power-play goals (2) and power-play points (3) this season. Jackson has established herself as an offensive threat from the blue line — leading all Maverick defensemen in goals (3), and points (7).

Cool Like Conway: Senior forward Amanda Conway (4-2--6) scored her fourth goal of the season in the Mavericks' 5-4 win over Lindenwood on Friday.

Balanced Attack: Fifteen different Mavericks have scored a goal this season, including nine who have scored at least two goals. Junior forward Jordan McLaughlin (6-6--12) leads the team with six goals, and senior forwards Amanda Conway (4-2--6) and Hannah Davidson (4-2--6) are tied for second with four goals each.

Clogging the Shooting Lanes: The Mavericks finished last season second in the WCHA and fourth in the nation with 568 blocked shots. Minnesota State has picked up where it left off — leading the WCHA and ranking fourth in the nation with 311 blocked shots this season. The Mavericks enter the week leading the nation in blocked shots per game (17.28).

Senior defenseman and team captain Anna Keys enters the week ranked sixth in the nation with 45 blocked shots. Minnesota State's season high for blocked shots is 33, which was achieved against then-No. 9 ranked Robert Morris on Oct. 7. The 33 blocked shots is the highest total by the Mavericks since they recorded 34 blocked shots at Wisconsin on Feb. 26, 2016.

Scouting Bemidji State: The Beavers (8-10-2, 4-7-1-1), who are receiving votes in the USCHO and USA Today/USA Women's Hockey Polls, enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak, including a two-game series sweep over RIT (5-2, 3-1) last weekend at Sanford Center.

Haley Mack (7-7--14) leads the Beavers in goals scored with seven and Emma Terres (6-7--13) is second with six. Mak Langei (2-10--12) paces the team in assists with 10.

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State returns to the ice for the first time in 2018 to face the Korean National Team in an exhibition contest on Jan. 2 at Verizon Center.
