Looking Back at Last Weekend: The Mavericks (6-18-3, 3-15-2-0 WCHA) went 0-1-1 against St. Cloud State at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn., on Friday and Saturday. Minnesota State lost 2-1 on Friday before tying the Huskies 3-3 in Saturday's game, which was featured as part of Hockey Day Minnesota.
The Bustad Blitz: Junior forward
Sara Bustad (3-1--4), who earned a WCHA Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention, had a career weekend on the offensive side of the ice for the Mavericks. Bustad, who came into the weekend with two goals in her Maverick career, doubled her career total with one goal in both Friday and Saturday's games against St. Cloud State. It is the first time in Bustad's collegiate career that she has scored goals in back-to-back games, and she has also totaled career bests for goals and points for a season in 2016-17.
May I Assist?: Sophomore forward
Corbin Boyd (2-9--11) — the team leader in assists — and junior forward
Hannah Davidson (2-7--9) each recorded two assists in Minnesota State's 3-3 tie at St. Cloud State on Saturday. Boyd's nine assists are the most she has recorded in a single season in her collegiate career. Davidson's assist total is two behind her career high of nine assists in a season, which she tallied in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns.
Brilliant off the Bench: Sophomore goaltender
Katie Bidulka (3-5-1) entered Saturday's game against St. Cloud State in the second period and the Mavericks trailing 3-0. Bidulka stopped all 15 shots she faced in 43:05 of ice time to allow the Mavericks to mount a comeback and finish the game with a 3-3 tie.
Wittchow's Game Tying Goal: Junior defenseman
Emma Wittchow's first goal since the 2014-15 season could not have come at a bigger moment for Minnesota State. Wittchow ended her scoring drought with the game-tying goal against St. Cloud State on Saturday.
Watching AMC: The forward line of sophomores
Emily Antony (6-7--13) and
Jordan McLaughlin (2-5--7), and junior
Lindsey Coleman (5-8--13) continued its offensive production against St. Cloud State. On Saturday, Antony scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season and Coleman and McLaughlin each assisted on the play. Antony and Coleman share the team lead in points for 2016-17.
Clogging the Shooting Lanes: The Mavericks lead the WCHA and are third in the nation with 387 blocked shots in 2016-17. Minnesota State has tallied a season-high 22 blocked shots twice: in its 2-1 come-from-behind win over former-No. 3 ranked Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 10, and at home against No. 1 Wisconsin on Oct. 28. Anna Keys (2-5--7) have scored the Mavericks last three game-winning goals. Fiegert, Hinze and Keys garnered the game-winning goals against Bemidji State on Dec. 3, former-No. 3 ranked Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 10 and Union on Dec. 17, respectively.
Scouting Wisconsin: The Badgers (22-2-1, 17-2-1-0 WCHA) enter the weekend on an eight-game winning streak, including a two-game series sweep over North Dakota on Saturday and Sunday at LaBahn Arena. Wisconsin won 3-2 on Saturday and 2-1 on Sunday.
The Badgers, which lead the nation in goals scored per game (3.96), are led on offense by junior forward Annie Pankowski (15-15--30).
In net, senior Ann-Renée Desbiens (18-1-1) leads the nations in wins, win percentage (.925), shutouts (10), goals against average (0.75) and save percentage (.957).
Last Time Around: The Mavericks are 0-2-0 this season against Wisconsin. In their last meeting, the Mavericks lost 3-0 on Oct. 28 and 3-1 on Oct. 29.
