Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn.--- The Minnesota State baseball team was guided by Dalton Roach's pristine outing, shutting out the regions top-rated team.
After the win, the Maverick's record moves to 34-16 on the year.
The game featured a pitcher's duel highlighted by Minnesota State starting pitcher
Dalton Roach who threw all 11 innings, racking up 12 strike outs. St. Cloud State's starting pitcher
Reese Gregory was not far behind, throwing 10 innings and fanning six Maverick batters.
The Mavericks struck in the top of the 11th inning when sophomore
Josh Wenzel led off with an infield single and moved over to third on senior
Taylor Branstad's single through the right side.
Wenzel made his way home on a sacrifice fly from senior
Chase Lonetti, allowing the Mavericks to claim a win in the first-round of the Central Region tournament.
Minnesota State's offense was led by
Wenzel and
Branstad who each collected two hits while
Lonetti recorded the game's lone run batted in.
Roach now moves his record to 6-3 on the year while his 11 innings pitched in a game were the most in Minnesota State's program since
Jason Hoppe's 10.2 and
Harvey Martin's 10 in 2013.
2016 marks the Maverick's 35th appearance in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament and the 11th consecutive.
Minnesota State will play again tomorrow, Friday, May 20, against Arkansas-Monticello at 5:00 p.m. at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
