MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State head coach Matt Magers has announced that Aidan Byrne will join the Maverick baseball team as an assistant coach.

"We're excited to welcome Aidan back to Minnesota State and add someone to our staff who understands the standard, culture, and expectations of Maverick Baseball," Magers said. "As one of the most decorated student-athletes in school history, Aidan brings experience in our program, coaching experience from his time with MASH Baseball, and continued growth as a professional player. He will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and staff both on and off the field."

For the past two seasons (2025-26), Byrne has competed with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of Independent League Baseball. In 2025, Byrne batted .249 with 66 hits, including five doubles and a triple. He also scored 33 runs and drove in 24, while stealing 11 bases. As of July 21, 2026, Byrne is batting .257 with 49 hits, including four doubles, three triples and two home runs. Byrne has scored 28 runs and has driven in 25, while coaxing 17 walks.

A native of Eagan, Minn., Byrne played four seasons at Minnesota State (2022-25). He finished his career as MSU's all-time career leader in at bats (812), hits (293), singles (203), runs scored (236) and RBI (188). He would go on to earn All-NSIC Second Team honors in 2024, before earning All-NSIC First Team accolades in 2025. Byrne also garnered D2CCA and ABCA/Rawling All-Central Region Second Team honors in 2025.

Byrne also excelled in the classroom having been named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence three times, while also being named the NSIC Most Outstanding Senior of the Year. Byrne was also named to the CSC Academic All-American Third Team in 2024 and the CSC Academic All-American Second Team in 2025. He is the only Maverick baseball player in team history to earn multiple CSC Academic All-American honors. Byrne was also the recipient of the Don Buchanan award after the 2024-25 athletic season.

Minnesota State finished its 2026 season with a 40-16 record as it advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
