Berkland Selected by White Sox in 19th Round of MLB Draft

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State sophomore Jake Berkland has been selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 19th round (555th overall) of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft.

A sophomore from Wayzata, Minn., Berkland played and started in all 115 games during Minnesota State's last two seasons. As a freshman in the outfield in 2025, Berkland played primarily in the outfield as he batted .316 with 64 runs scored, 66 hits and 38 RBI as he helped the Mavericks win NSIC regular season and tournament championships.

As a sophomore, Berkland played primarily at shortstop, starting in all 56 games. He led the team with a .366 batting average and set a team single-season record in runs scored with 82. Berkland also led the team in hits with 74, which included 11 doubles and 11 home runs. He was named to the All-NSIC First Team and earned All-Central Region honors from the NWBCA, D2CCA and ABCA/Rawlings.

Berkland is the 38th Maverick in team history to be selected in the MLB Draft. The most recent Maverick selected in the MLB Draft was Nick Altermatt, who was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 17th round (521st) overall.
