George Selected by Brewers in 19th Round of MLB Draft

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State junior Sam George has been selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 19th round (581st overall) of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft.

A pitcher from Bettendorf, Iowa, George made 14 appearances on the mound for the Mavericks this past season, including 13 starts. He boasted a 7-3 record, to go with a 3.53 ERA and 63 strikeouts. George was named to the All-NSIC First Team for his efforts.

In his three seasons with the Mavericks, George has put together a 17-5 record to go with a 3.53 ERA and 167 strikeouts. He has held opposing hitters to a .258 batting average in 165.2 innings. George has been named to the All-NSIC First Team twice.

George is the 39th Maverick in team history to be selected in the MLB Draft, joining Jake Berkland who was also selected in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox in the 19th round (555th overall). The last time two Mavericks were selected in the same draft came during the 2009 MLB Draft when both Chris Odegaard (23rd round/696th overall, Diamondbacks) and Geno Glynn (43rd/1,309th overall, Rays) were drafted.
