Box Score 2 ABERDEEN, S.D.--- The Minnesota State baseball team (23-14, 14-9 NSIC) played the Wolves of Northern State (15-18, 8-12 NSIC) on a gloomy Thursday afternoon in Aberdeen, S.D., at Fossum Field.
The Mavericks took care of business in winning the first game, out hitting the Wolves by a clip of 18-4 en route to a 10-0 victory. Â The tide turned a bit in game two as Northern State's pitching had become more stingy, allowing just Maverick hit through the first seven innings. Â The Mavericks eventually made their way onto the score board in the eighth with two runs, but wasn't enough as the Wolves took the second contest.Â
Minnesota State got going early in game one as they took a healthy 5-0 lead in the top-half of the second inning when senior
Taylor Branstad led things off with a single up the middle. Â
Sophomore
Luke Waldek followed by reaching on a fielder's choice, exiting
Branstad from second base. Â A couple batters later, with one on and two outs, freshman
Jordan Hart jolted his fifth homer of the season over the right-field wall taking a 2-0 lead. Â The Mavericks then struck for six consecutive two-out hits including sophomore
Josh Wenzel's two RBI double down the left-filed line to go up 5-0.
The Mavericks added to their lead with one run in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth. Â In the top of the fifth stanza,
Hart collected his third RBI of the game when he shot a one-out single to right bringing in
Waldek from second for his second run of the game. In the sixth, senior
Kyle Toth led the inning off getting hit by a pitch and
Wenzel followed with a single. Â Junior
Eric Peterson hit a single to right after
Wenzel stole second base to bring in both runners for an 8-0 Maverick clip.
In the top of the seventh, MSU added two insurance runs scored by
Hart and pinch runner, junior
Tyler Frohwirth.
On the hill, sophomore
Dalton Roach collected a career-high 13 strike outs in his seven-inning complete-game shutout. Â The right-hander gave up four hits in improving his 2015-16 record to 4-3.
The Mavericks were fueled at the plate by
Hart's 4-4 performance with his double, home run, three runs batted in and two scored effort. Â

Waldek all picked up two hits in the affair with
Peterson batting in three.
The Wolves drew first blood in game two in the bottom of the second frame with two runs on three hits and one Maverick error. Â Northern State would carry the lead all the way throughout the nine-inning affair adding one more in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ryan Moffett garnered the Mavericks only runs batted in.
Starting pitcher, junior
Mitchell Bauer threw seven complete in taking his third loss of the season and moving his record to 4-3. Â The right-hander allowed one earned run on seven hits in striking out six batters, tying his career-high.Â
The Mavericks will finish out their road schedule with four games this Saturday and Sunday, April 30 - May 1, at Winona State in Winona, Minn. Â The first of two games on Saturday is slated for 1:30 p.m. while Sunday's first pitch is a noon start.
