On Tap: Second-rated Minnesota State has another full slate of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests this week. The Mavericks will travel to Augustana College for a twinbill against the Vikings on Wednesday at 3 p.m. MSU will then battle Bemidji State on Saturday and Sunday in a couple of doubleheaders scheduled to begin at noon in Bemidji, Minn.
The Mavericks went 4-3 last week and now stand 17-4 overall and are 7-3 in NSIC play. MSU split with St. Cloud State before defeating Gustavus Adolphus college in non conference play. In the final series of the weekend, the Purple and Gold split with Minnesota Duluth.
Last Time on the Diamond: The Mavericks most recently played a pair of doubleheaders in Duluth, Minn. against Minnesota Duluth. The Mavericks and Bulldogs split the series with each team winning two games a piece.
In the opening game of the series, UMD's Bo Hellquist no-hit the Mavericks. MSU's only run came off a sacrifice fly by senior
Kevin Kramer as the Bulldogs took game one, 5-1. In game two, the Mavericks offense came alive led by senior
Nolan Johnson who went 2-4 with a solo home run and an RBI single. Redshirt freshman
Luke Waldek added a two run double and junior
Kyle Toth had an RBI single. Redshirt freshman
Aaron Rozek move to 3-0 on the year after allowing just three hits and striking out seven in eight innings.
Senior
Nick Veale kept the Mavericks in the third game of the series and allowed five hits and two earned runs over four innings. MSU used four RBI singles to defeat the Bulldogs 4-2. In the final game of the series, the two teams were tied at three going into the eighth inning, but a home run by UMD was the differentce as they took it by a final of 4-3.
Looking at the Vikings: Augustana College has won three games in a row and stand 15-10 overall and are 6-4 in the NSIC. Most recently the Vikings swept the University of Mary by scores of 6-1 and 10-0, respectively.
Offensively, the Vikings have four batters hitting over .400 led by sophomore Jacob James (OF, 5-10, 180, Rapid City, S.D.) who is batting .486 with four doubles, one home run and 14 RBI. Senior Jack Goihl (1B/C, 6-2, 215, Robbinsdale, Minn.) is batting .402 and leads the team with eight home runs and 31 RBI.
On the hill, senior Colton Fast (RHP, 6-0, 185, Elkhorn, Neb.) is 3-1 with a 1.07 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched. Sophomore Ryan Hamilton (RHP, 6-0, 185, Spearfish, S.D.) has pitched 35.1 innings owns a 3.31 ERA with a team high 29 strike outs.
Inside the MSU vs. AC Series: The Mavericks hold the edge in the all-time series against the Vikings holding a 52-14 record.
Scouting the Beavers: Bemidji State stands 8-19 overall and are 5-7 in league play this season. On Saturday the Beavers split Concordia St. Paul.
Junior Jack Hegarty (INF, 6-1, 180, Brainerd, Minn.) owns the highest batting average for the Beavers at .407 and has seven doubles, one triple and home run. Junior Tyler Nelson (INF, 6-1,185, Hayfield, Minn.) and freshman Scott Litchy (OF, 6-2, 185, Avon, Minn.) are both hitting above .300 and Litchy has a team high four home runs and 16 RBI.
Hegarty has also started three times on the mound and is 2-2 with a team low 3.04 ERA. Sophomore Terry Hadden (RHP, 6-0, 175, Elk River, Minn.) is 3-4 with 4.58 ERA.

Minnesota State has five Northern Intercollegiate Conference titles (1968, 1969, 1979, 1980, 1981), 19 North Central Conference championships (1970, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2006, 2007) and four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference crowns (2010, 2011, 2012,2014). The program has 33 appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament (1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and eight in the NCAA Division II World Series (1971, 1979, 1980, 1986, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014) including third-place finishes in 2012 and 2014 and a national runner-up performance in 2013.
Additionally, nine Mavericks have been selected All-Americans.
