Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Augustana's Bjorn Lind hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to erase an 8-7 Minnesota State lead and propel Augustana to a 10-9 victory over the Mavericks in the NSIC Tournament Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Mavericks now play the winner of the Winona State and UMary game later this evening for the right to play in Saturday's championship game.
After falling behind 4-0 after the first inning, the Mavericks responded with three doubles off the top of the centerfield fence.
Senior first baseman
Louis Magers coaxed a leadoff walk to start the second and came around to score from first as junior third baseman
Charlie Schau doubled off the wall in straightaway centerfield.
Schau then scored two pitches later as senior catcher
Brandon Vlcko blasted a double to the exact same spot.
Junior designated hitter
Pambos Nicoloudes continued the hit parade as he doubled to center, scoring Vlcko and cutting the Maverick deficit to 4-3.
The two teams traded a scoreless third inning before senior second baseman
Ethan Bowers tied the game at four with his sixth home run of the season clearing the left field fence.
Augustana regained the lead in the fifth with a two-run home run and added another run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
Minnesota State responded in the top of the seventh as sophomore shortstop
Jake Berkland doubled down the left field line. Senior
Cole Yearsley followed with a single to rightfield, plating Berkland.
Sophomore
CJ Trask followed with a single to right before both moved up a base on a groundball off the bat of Magers. Schau followed grounding out deep in the hole between second and short – plating Yearlsey and pulling the Mavericks within one.
Trask then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at seven.
The Mavericks took their only lead of the game in the top of the eighth as Bowers drew a one-out walk. An errant pickoff attempt moved Bowers to second before Nicoloudes walked and Berkland was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Yearsley would single through the right side to score Schau, giving the Mavericks an 8-7 lead.
Schau would draw a lead off walk in the ninth and move to third on a double off senior centerfielder
Logan Miller before eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Schau, ending the game at 10-9.
