LAKE CITY, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's golf team finished the Watkins Invitational in second place Tuesday.

The MSU "A" team shot a 298-299—597 (+25) during the two-day event. St. Catherine finished first with a 297-293—590 (+18), while the Maverick "B" team finished fourth with a 318-298—616 (+44). Sophia Karsina from Sioux Falls finished first individually as she shot a 75-69—144 (+1).

"I was really happy with how both of our teams played this week," Todd Pfingston said. "They played the course well and managed to make some shots and putts.

"The weather was perfect, the course was excellent and our goal is to continue to get better. We made strides this weekend from last weekend and we hope to continue that next weekend in Marshall."

Ava Olson and Emma Berge both finished in a tied for third place as they both finished +5. Olson led the Maverick "A" team with a 75-73—148, while Berge posted a 74-74—148.  

For the Maverick "A" team, Victoria Woytassek finished in a tie for sixth as she notched a 73-76—149 (+6), while Kelly Winter added a 72-80—152 (+9) to finish in a tie for 13th. Sammy Youngquist finished in a tie for 18th with an 82-72—154 (+11), while Mila Jenniges added a 78-78—156 (+13).

Emerson Garlie and Lauren Rebovich also finished in a tied for 18th on the Maverick "B" team. Garlie notched an 84-70—154 (+11), while Rebovich tallied an 82-72— (+11). Aly Blomberg shot 78-83—160 (+17), while Whitney Mullenbach finished with an 86-82—168 (+25).

Minnesota State returns to action this Saturday as it takes part in the two-day Mustang Invitational. The event is hosted by Southwest Minnesota State and will take place at the Marshall Country Club.
