Box Score MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. — Minnesota State (2-0-1, 0-0-1 WCHA) women's hockey fell short 4-3 to St. Thomas (3-0-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) on Friday afternoon in Mendota Height, Minnesota at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.
Both teams capitalized on scoring opportunities with MSU having 32 shots on goal and St. Thomas earning 27 shots on goal. St. Thomas was able to get on the scoreboard in the 11th and 14th minutes of the first period.
With four minutes left in the first period, junior
Taylor Otremba found the back of the net with an assist from
Lilie Ramirez and
Jamie Nelson.
In the 8th minute of the second period Cara Sajevic scored for the Tommies to make it 3-1.
St. Thomas was able to hold a two-goal margin until junior
Whitney Tuttle scored her third goal of the season in the 16th minute of the second period with an assist by Ramirez, her second assist of the afternoon.
Shortly after, the Tommies scored making to make it 4-2.
With three minutes left in the game, graduate student
Sydney Langseth scored her first goal of the season.
"Thought it took us a little while to find our legs. We generated some chances and hit a few posts and seemed to have a little momentum and then St Thomas was able convert on a few of our mistakes and take the momentum back," said Head Coach
Shari Dickerman. "We had a strong push late with the extra attacker, but dug ourselves too deep of a hole early on and couldn't pop the equalizer. Looking forward to seeing our bounce back effort tomorrow afternoon in front of our home crowd."
Minnesota State is back tomorrow afternoon as the Mavericks host St. Thomas at the Mayo Clinic Health Clinic Event Center at 2 p.m.
