Kansas City, Mo. --- Minnesota State picked up its first win of the 2022 season Saturday in second-day action of the Rockhurst Classic held in Kansas City this weekend.
The Mavericks, seeing their first action of the season at the tournament hosted by Rockhurst University, downed Black Hills State (S.D.) in today's first action, picking up a 3-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets. Paced by
Toryn Richard's 16 kills and .343 hitting percentage, MSU hit .204 for the match en route to the 25-18, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-12 win.
Abigail Wolfe and
Kiya Durant both chipped in with nine kills each. Richards also contributed a team-high 15 digs and
Makayla Snow had 24 assists.
Ellie Danielson led Minnesota State with 10 kills in the second match of the day, a 3-1 loss to host Rockurst.
Brenna Hesse had 18 digs, while Snow put up 19 assists with the Hawks prevailing by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 13-25 and 25-20.
The Mavericks, who stand 1-3 for the season, continue nonconference action with four matches at the UIndy Invitational next Friday and Saturday where they will face Ashland, Missouri-St. Louis, Indianapolis and Grand Valley State in Indianapolis.
