PEMBROKE, N.C. --- Minnesota State junior Nick Altermatt was named to the 2022 NCBWA Division II All-American First Team as a utility player, Thursday.

A two-way right-handed pitcher and utility player out of Wanda, Minn., Altermatt saw action in 47 of the Mavericks' 48 games this season and made 46 starts. He was named a D2CCA All-American Second Team selection Wednesday and was twice named to the All-NSIC First Team earlier in the season as a right-handed pitcher and as an outfielder. He led MSU's offensive charge with a team-high .378 batting average and .700 slugging percentage. Additionally, Altermatt led the Mavericks in hits (68), doubles (21), home runs (11), RBI (64) and total bases (126). Also a massive threat on the mound as a pitcher, Altermatt carved up the opposition with his arm. In 11 starts and 58.1 innings pitched this season, he had a 10-1 record and led MSU with 75 strikeouts. Named to the NSIC All-Defensive Team, Altermatt owned a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this year with 29 putouts and 10 assists during the campaign.

Minnesota State, which claimed this year's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference postseason tournament title and advanced to the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Regional, finished the season with a 39-9 overall record.
