PEMBROKE, N.C. --- The Minnesota State baseball team moved up two spots to 14th in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Top 25 Poll.
Minnesota State, at a 34-5 overall mark and 27-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season, is riding a season-high 14-game winning streak. In 39 games, MSU has outscored its opponents 382-124 while hitting 51 home runs and batting for a team average of .342. On the mound, MSU owns the nation's fourth-best ERA (2.94) and leads the NSIC in pitching. Opponents are batting just .215 against MSU this season.
The top team in the national poll is Wingate, which garnered 17 first-place votes and 472 voting points. Also representing the NSIC is Augustana, who is ranked No. 18 with 139 voting points.
The Mavericks return home for their final games of the regular season this weekend. The No. 1 (Minnesota State) and No. 2 (Augustana) teams in the NSIC baseball standings go head-to-head at Bowyer Field when the Mavericks play host to the Vikings. The series begins Senior Day Friday at 1:30 p.m. for a seven and nine-inning doubleheader and concludes with Alumni Day Saturday for the nine-inning finale at noon.
