Pittsburg, Kan. --- The Minnesota State men's indoor track & field team finished seventh in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. During the two-day event the Mavericks earned 27 points on their way to the sixth-place finish. Six individual Maverick athletes earned All-American status during the weekend of competition at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University. This is the 11th time the Mavericks have finished inside the top-10 in nationals with the most recent in 2014 where the Mavericks finished fourth with 38 points.
Steven Orzolek, a junior from Darwin, Minn., finished eighth in the shot put finals with a toss of 57' 1.5'' (17.41m). Orzolek earned All-American honors with his effort and becomes the third Maverick overall and the fifth time in program history that a Maverick garnered this recognition.
Nicholas Hudson, a junior from Burnsville, Minn., earned All-American honors in the weight after a third-place finish in the event with a distance of 68' 3.25''. This is the second time Hudson has achieved this status in his career and fifth time in Minnesota State history that an athlete has earned All-American recognition.
Deveyonn Brown, a senior from Prior Lake, Minn., took home a third-place finish in the high jump with a height of 7' 0.25'' (2.14m). Brown earns All-American honors with his performance today. This is the third time Brown has earned All-American recognition in the high jump. Also, this is the 15th time the Mavericks have had an All-American in the high jump.
Kornelius Klah, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa., went on to finish fifth in the 60m hurdles earning All-American honors for the second time in his career with a time of 7.95. Klah's performance is the eighth time the Mavericks have earned All-American recognition in the event.
Shaheed Hickman, a senior from Minneapolis, Minn., finished fifth in the 60m dash earning All-American honors with a time of 6.74. With Hickman's performance, it is the 11th time a Maverick athlete has earned All-American status.
Carson Dittel, a sophomore from Maplewood, Minn., finished tied for 14th in the pole vault with a height of 15' 9'' (4.80m)
Tanner Maier, a sophomore from Lodi, Wis., became a two-time All-American after a third-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:50.57. This is now the 11th time the Mavericks have had an athlete claim All-American honors in the 800m.
With the indoor season concluding, the Mavericks will return to action on March 25-26 as they begin their outdoor season. Minnesota State will compete in the Wildcat Outdoor Classic in Wayne, Neb.
