Mavericks Are 12th After Day One of NCAA Indoor Championships

Pittsburg, Kan.--- The Minnesota State men's track & field team competed in the first day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. Three Mavericks have qualified for the final day of competition. Nick Hudson for the Mavericks claimed All-American honors in the weight throw.

Kornelius Klah, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa., qualified fifth in the 60m hurdles tying his career best mark of 7.92. Klah will compete for the National Championship in this event tomorrow as it is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CST. Klah looks to become the second Maverick to claim the title in the event after Myles Hunter earned the 2016 National Championship. Klah finished 14th in the preliminary round of the 400m dash setting a career best mark of 48.25.

Shaheed Hickman, a senior from Minneapolis, Minn., set and career best mark in the 60m dash with a time of 6.72. This performance is a qualifying mark for a chance at the national championship in this event tomorrow at 5:20 p.m. CST.

Nicholas Hudson, a junior from Burnsville, Minn., earned All-American honors in the weight after a third-place finish in the event with a distance of 68' 3.25''. This is the second time Hudson has achieved this status in his career and fifth time in Minnesota State history that an athlete has earned All-American recognition.

Tanner Maier, a sophomore from Lodi, Wis., took home the first-place finish in the preliminary round of the 800m dash with a career best mark and school record of 1:50.40. Maier will now have a chance at the national championship in the 800m dash tomorrow with the event starting at 6:25 p.m. CST.

The qualified Mavericks return to action tomorrow as several national championships are on the line. The first event that Minnesota State will be competing in begins at 2:30 p.m. CST, with the shot put.
