Minnesota State hosted UW- Eau Claire for a midseason exhibition matchup on Monday.
Sydney Langseth led the charge for the Mavericks with two goals and an assist on the game.
Due Up:
Minnesota State is looking to extend its winning streak to four as it gets set for the final two games against St. Thomas this weekend. The Mavericks are staring down a home-and-home as they host the Tommies on Saturday then traveling up to St. Thomas for the only Sunday game of the season.
Last Time Out:
Minnesota State took care of business against Sacred Heart as they earned dominate wins 4-1 and 5-1. This weekend the Mavericks saw no regular season action as they hosted the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds for an exhibition match on Monday. The Blugolds were a dominate DIII program out of the WIAC who looked to prove themselves against a tough DI Maverick program.
Minnesota State came out sloppy as they gave up three power-play opportunities in the first half the opening period giving the Blugolds the early momentum advantage. The Mavericks allowed little opportunities in the first despite the Bluegolds power-plays as
Lauren Barbro only had to stop three shots in the first period. The Mavericks cleaned up their play resulting in goals from
Sydney Langseth and
Claire Butorac to close out the first period.
In the beginning moments of the second period, the Blugolds took a tripping penalty and
Taylor Otremba made them pay with her first goal on the afternoon giving the Mavericks a three-goal cushion. The Maverick went on to score three more in the second from
Kennedy Bobyck,
Madison Mashuga, and
Sydney Langseth. The Mavericks never let their foot off the gas as
Brooke Bryant added the seventh goal on the afternoon at the 9:25 mark of the third period. Minnesota State will look to build off its 7-1 win as they get set to host St. Thomas on Saturday at 2:00p.m.
Taking on St. Thomas:
Minnesota State have only allowed four goals in its seven all-time matchups with the Tommies. UST slots in at the bottom of the WCHA as they have yet to earn a conference point on the year going 0-8-0 against WCHA opponents.
The STU offense is led by senior
Maija Almich and sophomore
Maddy Clough who both own three goals on the season through 12 games. Forward Maddy Clough leads the team in points as she also has a team high three assists. In goal, the Tommies rely on
Saskia Maurer as she has started eight games for UST accumulating 462 minutes resulting in a 3-5-0 overall record. Maurer owns a 2.73 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
