Due Up:
Minnesota State is looking to regroup against a young St. Thomas team in another home-and-home series. The Mavericks will kick off play hosting the Tommies on Thursday at 6:00p.m in their only Thursday game on the season. Following the game, MSU will travel to Mendota Heights to take on UST in its house on Friday at 6:00p.m.
Last Time Out:
MSU huge its hat on their physical play against UMD but last week against #2/2 Minnesota, it held little physical dominance against the big, physical, and speedy gopher offense. The Mavericks had little momentum against the gophers as they gave up a program worst 20 goals on the weekend. The Maverick duo
Alexa Berg and
Lauren Barbro faced 86 shots while giving up 20.
The Mavericks got shutout on Friday at the Mayo Clinic HSEC 11-0 and had little going right. After the game, Head coach
John Harrington preached tomorrow was a new day and the score goes back to zeros. The team came into Ridder Arena preaching the same philosophy, coming out faster and more alert.
Alexa Paddington led the Maverick offense with two goals on Saturday giving the Mavericks energy to compete. MSU challenged UM for two periods and got outlasted by the gophers in the third.
Taking on St. Thomas:
In five all-time matchups between the Mavericks and the Tommies, MSU is undefeated in all five pervious matchups. In the most recent matchup on January 23rd, Minnesota State knocked off the Tommies in Hockey Day Minnesota at Blakeslee Stadium with a 3-1 final. The Maverick owned the momentum courtesy of a
Madison Mashuga snipe to open Hockey Day. MSU found itself in penalty trouble as St. Thomas capitalized on its first power-play chance in the game to tie things at one. The Mavericks would hammer home a goal in each of the next two periods to send the Tommies home with a 3-1 loss.
UST owned a 5-27-1 overall record last season with a 3-23-1 mark in league games. The Tommies fell to the bottom of the WCHA standings with a .130-win percentage. MSU owned a .381 winning percentage in league games while checking in at fifth in the standings
