MARSHALL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team opened its 2020-21 season on a high note Thursday evening as it bested Southwest Minnesota State 205-73.
With the win, MSU now owns a 1-0 record in dual action this season, while SMSU drops to 0-1. Minnesota State took first place in all 16 events, including two relay events and two diving events.

Ella DeFever won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.70 as well.
Sophomore
Ayla Taylor claimed the top spot in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Taylor recorded 177.60 points in the 1-meter diving event and 176.5 points in the 3-meter diving event.
Junior
Katie Streiff won three individual events on the day including the 100 butterfly (1:00.64), the 50 butterfly (27.27) and the 100 IM (1:02.16).
Three other Mavericks won two individual events including Meinberg, DeFever and junior
Emily Goodman. DeFever won the 100 backstroke and the 200 freestyle events with times of 59.97 and 1:56.70, respectively, while Goodman won the 50 breaststroke (30.69) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.08) events. Meinberg won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.02 and finished in a tie for first with her teammate Enervold in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.18.
Junior
Eve Berg also won the 1,000 freestyle event with a time of 11:06.55, while senior
Emelia Selky turned in a time of 5:23.29 for first place in the 500 freestyle. Mishmash won the 100 freestyle event with a time of 54.31 also.
Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday as it hosts the St. Cloud State Huskies. The diving events are scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., with the swimming events set to follow at 2:00 p.m.
