Levy and Wilgren Gardner All-WCHA Honors

Bloomington, Minn. --- Freshmen goaltender Abigail Levy and defenseman Anna Wilgren were both named to 2018-19 Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-League Teams, Powered by GoodWood Hockey. Levy was named to the All-WCHA Second Team, while Levy and Wilgren were named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.

A native from Congers, N.Y., Levy (9-17-7) has started 32 of the 33 games in net for the Mavericks this season. Heading into the postseason, Levy has posted a .923 save percentage, a 2.34 goals-against average, made 914 saves and has collected five shutouts. She has made a season high 42 saves twice in the same series against then #5 Ohio State on Oct. 12-13. The 914 saves are the most in the WCHA and are the third most in all of NCAA, while leading all freshman in net. Levy posted a shutout in three straight games this season against Lindenwood on Nov. 23-24 and then #6 Ohio State on Dec. 1. Her five shutouts are tied for the most in a single season in Minnesota State history. Levy also has one point on the season and she picked up her first career assist against Robert Morris on Dec. 17. Levy has earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors twice, WCHA Goaltender of the Week honors three times and WCHA Goaltender of the Month three times this season. Levy is the first Maverick to be named to an All-WCHA team since Danielle Butters was named to the third team during the 2013-14 season.

Coming from Hudson, Wis., Wilgren has made a big impact by leading Maverick defenseman by playing all 33 games and collecting 12 points on four goals and eight assists. Three of her four goals have come on the power play, which also leads the team and is tied for the most among WCHA defenseman. Wilgren is currently tied for third in goals, ninth in points and 12th in assists among WCHA defenseman. She scored her first collegiate goal and game-winning goal on Sept. 30 in a 3-1 win over Rensselaer. Wilgren has helped pace the Mavericks in blocked shots, currently leading the country as a team with 643, while leading the WCHA and sitting second in the NCAA in with 119. Wilgren was named to the Minnesota Cup All-Tournament Team, earned WCHA Defenseman of the Week twice and WCHA Defenseman of the Month once this season.

Levy and Wilgren are the first two Mavericks to be named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team since Holly Snyder was named during the 2006-07 season.

Minnesota State will face #10 Ohio State in the first round of the WCHA Tournament in Columbus, Ohio from March 1-3.
