MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey will play its last regular season road series against #1 Minnesota at Ridder Arena. Games will be played on Friday and Saturday with the puck being dropped at 7:07 p.m., and 4:07 p.m., respectively.
Minnesota State All-Time: The MSU women's hockey program, which started in 1998-99, is currently in its 21st season of competition and has compiled a 185-479-62 (.298) record in 726 total games played. The Mavericks are in their 20th year as members in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and hold a 114-381-49 (.255) in 544 games played.
Last Time on the Ice: Minnesota State (9-15-5, 3-14-3-2 WCHA) played three WCHA road games last week and lost to St. Cloud State 4-1 last Tuesday, then was swept by #2 Wisconsin 7-2 and 4-1 last Saturday and Sunday.
The Mavericks found themselves in a 4-0 hole before being able to score a goal in the loss to the Huskies. Senior
Hannah Potrykus scored two goals for SCSU, then senior and junior
Hallie Theodosopoulos and
Kayla Friesen scored the other two goals. Junior
Taylor Gulenchyn was able to light the lamp for the first time this season late in the third period. Gulenchyn went top shelf, past the stick of the Huskies netminder.
The Badgers struck early against the Mavericks in the first game as freshman
Nicole Lamantia scored 1:42 into the game. Senior
Emily Clark scored in the first period as well before the Mavericks answered with a power play goal in the second period. Senior
Rebekah Kolstad rifled the puck from the left face-off circle for her eighth goal of the season. Wisconsin answered with two power play goals of its own before the second period was over with juniors

Sophie Shirley made the score 6-1 in favor of UW before the next MSU goal. Freshman
Claire Butorac scored her first goal as a Maverick on a breakaway that beat the Badger netminder to the low, left corner. UW scored the final goal of the game off the stick of freshman
Britta Curl.
The Mavericks found themselves in the same situation the next day, being down 2-0 after one period of play. Shirley and junior
Alexis Mauermann scored for the Badgers in the period. Wisconsin added a goal in the second and third period each, by senior
Sam Cogan and Curl to take a 4-0 lead. Senior
Corbin Boyd score her eighth goal of the season to end the shutout. Unassisted, Boyd's shot glanced off the Badger goaltender and rolled over the line for the goal.
In net, freshman
Abigail Levy (two games) and junior
Chloe Crosby (one game) each made starts for the Mavericks on the week. Levy collected 63 saves and allowed four goals against SCSU and UW. Crosby turned away 37 shots and allowed seven goals in her first start of the season against UW.
Scouting Minnesota: The Gophers (24-4-1, 14-5-1 WCHA) were idle this past week. The Gophers currently sit in second of the WCHA standings, two points behind Wisconsin.
The UM offense features senior
Nicole Schammel who leads the WCHA in points and assists this season (11-28--39). Sophomore
Grace Zumwinkle paces the WCHA in goals scored and is third in points (22-15--37).
In net, Minnesota features junior
Sydney Scobee (9-2-1) and sophomore
Alex Gulstene (16-2-0) who split time. Between the two of them they hold a 1.70 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and have 625 saves so far this season with four shutouts.
Facing Minnesota: All-time, the Mavericks are 3-86-3 against the Gophers, dating back to 1998. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 11-12 where UM swept a series at Verizon Center 5-1 and 6-3.
Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will finish up the regular season with a home series against Minnesota Duluth on Feb. 22-23 with senior day being on Saturday. Games will begin at 7:07 p.m., and 3:07 p.m., respectively.
