No. 19 Mavericks to Face Peacocks in Final Series of Regular Season

What's on Tap: No. 19 Minnesota State baseball wraps up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular-season play with a four-game series at Upper Iowa on Friday and Saturday in Fayette, Iowa. Doubleheaders are slated for 1:00 p.m., on both days at Robertson Woods Field.
 
Last Time on the Diamond: Minnesota State (30-11, 25-7 NSIC) took three out of four games from former-No. 1 ranked Augustana over the weekend. The Mavericks split a doubleheader on Saturday (4-3, 2-4) before sweeping a twin bill on Sunday (3-1, 13-10).
 
NSIC Standings: Minnesota State, which is 25-7 in NSIC play, enters the final weekend of the regular season in third place in the NSIC. Minot State is in first place with a 25-6 conference record, while Augustana is second at 24-6. Minot State faces the University of Mary and Augustana faces Wayne State this weekend. 

King of the Hill: A three-time All-American and Brett Tomko Award winner in 2017, senior right-hander Dalton Roach (8-0) is the Mavericks' all-time leader in career wins (30) and strikeouts (356). Roach is also approaching the Mavericks' record for career innings pitched. He enters the weekend second with 269 2/3 innings — trailing only Jason Hoppe's (2011-14) total of 275 1/3.
 
Superb Southpaw: Senior left-hander Aaron Rozek (7-2) leads the Maverick pitching staff in ERA (1.71), innings pitched (63 1/3) and strikeouts (83). Rozek has set new career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts, while also having a career-best opposing batting average (.208).
 
The Wenzel Watch: Josh Wenzel, a senior center fielder, leads Minnesota State in nine offensive categories: batting average (.395), on-base percentage (.448), runs scored (32), hits (60), RBI (27), doubles (13), triples (3), total bases (85) and walks (15). Wenzel is also one of the top players in program history — ranking in the top 10 of seven offensive statistics: hits (4th, 231), at-bats (5th, 690), sacrifice hits (5th, 22), runs (7th, 141), doubles (T-7th, 42), RBI (9th, 134) and triples (T-10th, 7).

Power Surge: Jordan Hart, a junior right fielder, hit his team-leading fifth homer of the season in Minnesota State's 13-10 win over Augustana in game two on Sunday. He is tied for the sixth-most home runs in program history with 22.

Regional Rankings: With its series victory over Augustana last weekend, Minnesota State moved up from No. 7 to No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division DII Central Region rankings, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. Also representing the NSIC in the rankings, Augustana is ranked No. 6 and St. Cloud State is No. 7.  
 
Scouting the Peacocks: Upper Iowa (14-23, 12-17 NSIC) enters the series with Minnesota State on a six-game losing streak, including being swept by Minot State (2-1, 7-4, 6-1 and 4-2) in their most-recent NSIC series on April 28-29 in Minot, N.D. 

Up Next: The NSIC Baseball Tournament begins on Wednesday in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Mavericks enter the final weekend of the regular season as the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
