MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey hits the road for a second consecutive nonconference series against Lindenwood. Both games will be played at 2:00 p.m., on Friday and Saturday at Lindenwood Ice Arena.
Minnesota State All-Time: The MSU women's hockey program, started in 1998-99, is currently in its 21st season of competition and has compiled a 181-469-59 (.297) record in 709 total games played. The Mavericks are in their 20th year as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and hold a 113-372-47 (.257) in 532 games played.
Last Time on the Ice: Minnesota State (5-5-2, 2-5-1-1 WCHA) traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa., and went 1-0-1 in the series against Robert Morris. The Mavericks tied with the Colonials 4-4 in overtime last Friday and then won 2-1 last Saturday.
On Friday, Minnesota State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with this season's first team power-play goal by freshman
Brooke Bryant and then a goal by senior
Corbin Boyd. Robert Morris then scored to make the score 2-1 right before the first intermission. The Mavericks added two more goals in the second period, again scored by Boyd and Bryant, to make the score 4-1. Boyd's goal was another power-play goal for MSU. The Colonials came back and scored three goals in the third period to force overtime and then the game ended in a 4-4 tie.
Minnesota State came back from a 1-0 deficit to win on Saturday. The first period went scoreless as Robert Morris scored the first goal of the game in the second period. The Mavericks got two goals in the third period by sophomore
Brittyn Fleming and senior
Rebekah Kolstad. Fleming's goal was MSU's third power-play goal of the series.
In net, freshman
Abigail Levy (5-5-2) started both games for the Mavericks allowing five goals and made 73 saves on 78 opportunities, for a save percentage of .936. Levy also added her first assist of her collegiate career on Fleming's power-play goal. She currently leads the WCHA in saves and save percentage and is second in goals-against average.
Scouting Lindenwood: The Lions (3-7-2, 1-4-1 CHA) went 0-2 in a home exhibition series with the Minnesota Whitecaps last weekend. LU lost 4-1 last Saturday and 5-2 last Sunday. Lindenwood is currently 2-3-1 in its home arena this season during regular season play.
The Lions offense features sophomore
Sierra Burt, who leads LU with eight points this season (3-5--8). Junior
Nicole Guagliardo and sophomore
Hannah Alt lead the Lions in goals scored and have the same stat line at 4-2--6.
In net, the Colonials feature senior
Jolene deBruyn (3-5-1), who has started nine of their 12 total games this season. Bailey holds a 2.82 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage and has 282 saves so far this season.
Facing Lindenwood: All-time, the Mavericks are 15-3-2 against the Lions, dating back to 2011. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 8-9, 2017 where the series was split with MSU winning 5-4 then LU winning 4-1.
Looking Ahead: The Mavericks will return home and to WCHA action for the first time since Nov. 2-3. #6 Ohio State will come to town on Dec. 2-3 with the puck dropping at 6:07 p.m., and 2:07 p.m.
