Mavericks Best Blugolds in Home Opener

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team opened up the home portion of its schedule with a dominant performance Friday evening as it took first place in all 16 events, en route to a 182-116 win over UW-Eau Claire.

With the win, MSU improves to 1-1 in dual action this season, while UWEC falls to 0-1.

"We had a great night of racing & competing in our first home meet of the season," head coach Nathan Owens said. "Overall, the team had a lot of energy and excitement for their events. We posted some solid early season results. I thought that our divers also had a good night on the boards and looked sharp."

"This past week was probably the best week of practice and preparation that we've had so far this season, so it was good to see that carry over into the meet on Friday night. We've got a talented young team that will continue working hard to improve."

The relay team of freshman Amanda Jordan, sophomore Lily Borgenheimer, freshman Katie Streiff and junior Maggie Knier turned in a first place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.80. The team of Jordan, sophomore Emelia Selky, Streiff and Knier won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.20.

Senior Hannah Guy finished first in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 232.80 and second in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 189.40. Senior Hannah Gosen won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 232.35.

Borgenheimer won three individual events Friday evening, including the 50-yard breaststroke (30.55), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.07) and the 200-yard IM (2:11.88.).

Knier, Selky and Streiff each won two individual events on the day as well. Knier won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 24.24 and 54.20, respectively, while Selky won the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.02) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.70) events. Streiff took first place in the 50-yard butterfly event with a time of 26.34 and the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 58.79 as well.

Jordan, junior Rylie Parman and freshman Brooke Miles each won an individual event of their own as well. Jordan took first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.23, while Miles won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.27. Parman won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 2:01.11 as well.

Minnesota State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 26, as it hosts Sioux Falls, at 5:00 p.m.
