Last Time on the Ice: The Mavericks (3-18-1, 1-13-0-0 WCHA) were swept in a two-game WCHA series by St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The score of the first game was 5-0 and the second game was 3-1.
All-Time Maverick: Senior
Anna Keys (0-4--4) moved into sole possession of third place in program history for points by a defenseman with 34 (8-26--34) when she tallied an assist at St. Cloud State on Saturday.
Reaching 50: Senior forward
Hannah Davidson (4-2--6) recorded her 50th career point with her goal against Lindenwood on Dec. 9. She leads all current Mavericks in career goals (22), assists (28) and points (50). Davidson is the 18th Maverick to reach the 50-point plateau.
Phenomenal Freshman: Freshman center
Brittyn Fleming (4-11--15) is the Mavericks' team leader in both assists (11) and points (15). Fleming scored the Mavericks' lone goal in Saturday's game at St. Cloud State. With the power-play goal, Fleming moved into the team lead in power-play points with four. Fleming's 15 points this season have surpassed last season's team-high point total of 14, which was achieved by junior forward
Emily Antony.
Mighty McLaughlin: Junior forward
Jordan McLaughlin's (6-6--12) six goals, six assists and 12 points this season are all career bests. She leads the team in goals scored and game-winning goals (2) in 2017-18.
Scoring from the Point: Sophomore
Jordan Jackson (3-4--7) leads Minnesota State defensemen in goals (3), assists (4) and points (7). Jackson leads the team in power-play goals with two.
Balanced Attack: Sixteen different Mavericks have scored a goal this season, including 10 who have scored at least two goals. Junior forward
Jordan McLaughlin (6-6--12) leads the team with six goals, while senior forwards
Amanda Conway (4-2--6) and
Hannah Davidson (4-2--6) and freshman forward
Brittyn Fleming (4-11--15) are tied for second with four goals each.
Clogging the Shooting Lanes: The Mavericks finished last season second in the WCHA and fourth in the nation with 568 blocked shots. Minnesota State has picked up where it left off — leading the WCHA and ranking fourth in the nation with 347 blocked shots this season.
Two Mavericks rank in the top 10 nationally in blocked shots. They are: senior defensemen
Anna Keys (6th, 50) and
Emma Wittchow (9th, 47). Minnesota State's season high for blocked shots is 33, which was achieved against then-No. 9 ranked Robert Morris on Oct. 7. The 33 blocked shots is the highest total by the Mavericks since they recorded 34 blocked shots at Wisconsin on Feb. 26, 2016.
Scouting Wisconsin: The No. 1 Badgers (21-1-0, 12-0-0 WCHA) enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak that began with a 4-2 win over BU at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Nov. 25. Wisconsin last took the ice on Dec. 9 — defeating St. Cloud State 3-0.
The Badgers' offense, which averages 3.45 goals per game, is led in points by
Abby Roque (8-17--25).
In goal,
Kristen Campbell, has started all 22 games — playing to a 21-1-0 record with a 1.00 goals against average and .948 save percentage.
Earlier this season, Minnesota State was swept in a two-game series by Wisconsin on Oct. 13-14 at Verizon Center. The scores of the games were 3-2 and 3-1.
Looking Ahead: After a week off from competition, Minnesota State returns to WCHA play for a two-game series at No. 5 Minnesota on Jan. 26-27.
