#6 Mavericks To Entertain NSIC Foes Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State

Minnesota State will look to extend its 10-game unbeaten streak this Friday and Sunday vs. the Bulldogs and Huskies in Mankato

What's on Tap: In the last 10 games, Minnesota State has not seen a tally in the loss column going 9-0-1. The Mavericks are on a three-game win streak having tied a 22-rated Minot State four games ago. Within the 10-game span, all nine of the wins have come against NSIC opponents and the Mavericks will look to continue on that path as they host a 4-8-2 Minnesota Duluth and a 7-4-2 a St. Cloud State this Friday and Sunday.

A Look Back at Last Week: Last Saturday, Minnesota State turned on the jets in the first half of play vs. Wayne State in Wayne, Neb. The Mavericks scored five first-half goals and were fueled by freshman Maddie Raley (Hudson, Wis.) who recorded her first career hattrick in the 6-0 win. The next day, MSU traveled to Sioux Falls, S.D. where they took on a 25th-rated Augustana University. The Vikings were the first to get on the board, in the 63rd minute of the match. Then, just 14 minutes later, Minnesota State's leading scorer, senior Korey Kronforst (Cary, Ill.), notched the game at one goal a piece before freshman Morgan Cottew (Minneapolis, Minn.) netted her seventh goal on the year to seal the victory for Minnesota State.

Not-So-Marginal Margins: After week seven of the 2015 season, Minnesota State has now outscored their oppositions by a mark of 50-6. The Mavericks are averaging 3.57 goals per game while giving up 0.422 goals per game. MSU now ranks tied for fourth nationally in goals per game and eighth nationally in goals allowed per game. There is only one other team in the country, that ranks in the top ten of both categories. That team is Central Missouri, who has scored 0.21 goal less per game, ranking ninth, and has given up 0.20 more goals per game ranking 10th. Minnesota State also leads the NSIC in points per game with an average of 10.86, doubling the next closest team in the Northern Sun, Augustana, who has produced 5.43 pts/g.

Numbers Never Lie: Of the team statistics that the NCAA highlights, Minnesota State is ranked in all but one category in DII, which is saves per game. This can attributed to the Maverick defense that has allowed just 70 shots on goal (10.5/g) in 14 games to opponents. The statistics in which Minnesota State is ranked nationally include: total assists (2nd, 52), assists per game (2nd, 3.71), total goals (T-5th, 50), total points (3rd, 152), points per game (4th, 10.86), save percentage (2nd, .914), and shutout percentage (10th, .643) recording nine shutouts in 14 games.
