MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State swimming and diving team had one of its best days of the season Saturday afternoon as it topped MSU Moorhead in its final tune up before the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships.
The Mavericks posted 168 points in the win as they improved to 2-2 in dual action on the season. The Dragons tallied 132 points in the loss as they fell to 4-2 in dual competition. In total, the Mavericks posted the top-finish in 12 of the 16 events on the day.
A total of three Mavericks won at least two individual events on the day, including freshman
Taylor Bass who won three events, with both senior
Emily Green and junior
Samantha Rasmussen winning two events.
Bass took the top finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.81), the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.41) and the 200-yard IM (2:14.45). Senior
Tessa Cady took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.49, while freshman
Chelsea Calhoon finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.42 as well.
Green finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.15, before finishing the day with the best time in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 54.68.
Rasmussen took first place in the both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:15.35) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.17) events. Calhoon finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:20.36 as well.
Sophomore
Nicole Bean won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.09, to go along with a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:01.24. Freshman
Kylie Gaeth claimed the top-finish in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:00.30.
Junior
Jade Ely won the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:15.28 as well.
The Mavericks also won a pair of relay events on the day.
The team on freshman
Cecilia Hake, Rasmussen, Bass and Bean won the 200-yard medley relay event with a time of 1:49.24, while the quartet of Bean, Gaeth, Hake and Green earned the top-finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.76
The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, February 18, as they take part in the four-day New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships in Cleveland, Miss.
