Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. --- Sixth-ranked Minnesota State collected its 17th straight victory in the team's regular season finale as it swept visiting Wayne State by margins of 4-2 and 3-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon at the MSU Baseball Complex.
The pair of wins elevates MSU to 40-7 on the year and 28-4 within the league securing the Mavericks the top seed in next week's conference tournament and their fifth consecutive season with at least 40 wins. Wayne State drops to 25-22 overall and 18-15 in the NSIC.
Game one saw the Purple and Gold strike first in the bottom of the third inning when senior
Mike Andries scored after an infield single to the shortstop by senior
Todd Standish with the bases loaded. However, Wayne State fired back with a solo home run from junior
Michael Herman in the top of the fourth and a RBI single up the middle by freshman
Alex Schleppenbach in the fifth to claim a 2-1 edge.
In the bottom of the sixth with two down and the bases loaded, sophomore
Kevin Kramer delivered for the Mavericks drilling a three-run double to the gap in left-center field securing the 4-2 victory.
Junior righthander
Mathias Butala (4-2) struck out six and scattered six hits and two earned runs over six innings, while junior southpaw
Matt Geislinger collected his third save of the season with a scoreless seventh frame.
The second contest saw all four runs come in the first four innings. Senior
Stetson Olson plated freshman
Eric Peterson in the bottom of the first with a fielder's choice for the Mavericks, until junior
John Roberts tagged a solo home run to left-center field for WSC in the top of the second.

Parker Sullivan scored Kramer in the second giving MSU a one-run cushion, before Olson belted his 11th home run of the year in the fourth extending the lead to 3-1 which proved final.
Senior righthander
Taylor Nawrocki fanned eight over six innings of one-run ball and allowed a mere three base runners on the day. Fellow senior righthander
T.J. Larson struck out four across three innings with just one hit allowed to earn his first save of the season.
Minnesota State will be the number one seed in the NSIC tournament next week. MSU opens the tournament at 11 a.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D., against an opponent yet to be determined.
