Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. --- Second-ranked Minnesota State capitalized on five Timberwolf errors and senior Taylor Nawrocki twirled seven shutout innings as the Mavericks topped Northwood, 6-2, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the Russ Matt Invitational.
Â
The victory elevates MSU to 9-2 overall, while NU drops to 4-4 on the season.
Â
Senior
Mike Andries (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) put the Mavericks ahead 1-0 with an RBI single in the top of the second plating senior
Stetson Olson (Renton, Wash.) who had reached on an error. MSU stretched the cushion to three runs in the fourth when junior
Nolan Johnson (Bloomington, Minn.) scored on a NU wild pitch and freshman
Eric Peterson (Eagan, Minn.) used a sacrifice fly to drive in Olson once more.
Â
Minnesota State owned a 6-0 advantage after scoring three additional runs, all unearned, in the top of the sixth frame. Senior
Todd Standish (Brookings, S.D.) scored after a mistake by the Northwood shortstop, before Johnson's sacrifice fly to right plated junior
Connor McCallum (Shoreview, Minn.). Andries capped the inning with a RBI double as Olson touched home for the third time in contest.
Â
Six runs was more than enough run support for senior
Taylor Nawrocki (Fairmont, Minn.) who dazzled in his first start of the season and improved to 3-0 on the year. Nawrocki allowed just six baserunners - three hits and three walks - while striking out a pair across seven scoreless innings. Nawrocki has yet to allow an earned run this season and has crafted a sparkling .100 opponent batting average.

Matt Geislinger (Watkins, Minn.) struck out two in a scoreless eighth, the Timberwolves pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth off senior
Chris Williams (Omaha, Neb.) to complete the 6-2 final.
Â
Junior
Jason Wimberly (0-1) took the loss for Northwood after surrendering three runs - one earned - with three strikeouts against four hits and a walk in 3.2 innings.
Â
Olson ended the day one-of-three with a walk and three runs scored for the Mavericks, while Andries finished three-of-four with a double and two RBI.
