Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- Minnesota State used two third-period goals in the final 10 minutes and 40 saves from senior
Danielle Butters to complete a 2-1 come-from-behind victory and road sweep of No. 4 North Dakota in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Sunday afternoon at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Â
The sweep marks the first over UND since Jan. 6-7, 2007 and moves the Mavericks to 12-19-1 overall and 7-18-1 in league play, good for seventh place. North Dakota stands 17-9-4 on the season and 14-8-4 in conference play which places it third.
Â
North Dakota jumped out to a one-goal lead after the first period on a goal by sophomore
Meghan Dufault at 5:40. Senior netminder
Danielle Butters (London, Ont.) stopped multiple UND chances before Dufault scored through traffic with Butters outside the crease. That was the only blemish in the frame for Butters who registered 15 saves and played a key role in killing two UND power-plays.
Â
MSU received a power-play chance of its own late in the second period and displayed good puck movement resulting in numerous scoring chances only to be denied by sophomore goaltender
Lexie Shaw. Butters turned away all 19 shots she faced in the stanza bringing her two-period total to 34.
Â
The Purple and Gold received their second opportunity with the advantage midway through the third period and pulled even when a pair of seniors collected for a picture-perfect goal. Junior
Kathleen Rogan (Vancouver, B.C.) played senior
Lauren Barnes (Burnsville, Minn.) on the blue line who dished a backdoor feed from the top of the right circle to senior
Kari Lundberg (Woodbury, Minn.) that she buried into the left side at 11:44 for her 10th goal of the season. MSU pulled ahead at 16:30 of the period on senior
Nicole Germaine's (Mississauga, Ont.) 11th marker of the year. Freshman
Anna Fiegert (Landshut, Germany) hit senior
Tracy McCann who carried the puck down the right side and drove the net where Germaine streaked in to tap across the rebound giving MSU a 2-1 lead. From there, Butters and the Mavericks denied UND for nearly two minutes with the extra attacker to hold for the win and series sweep.
Â
Butters ended with a game-high 40 saves for the Mavericks who finished one-of-two on the power-play. Shaw stopped 18 shots for UND which ended zero-of-three on the advantage and owned a 41-20 edge in shots.

Minnesota State returns home next weekend to host Wisconsin in its final regular-season series with Saturday's series finale marking Senior Night at All Seasons Arena.
