Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Dickinson, N.D. --- No. 14 Minnesota State scored 11 runs in the final three innings of game two - including a two-run walk-off homerun by junior
Todd Standish - to salvage a series split with the University of Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at Astoria Ballpark Wednesday afternoon.

MSU dropped the game one, 8-4, but recovered with an 11-9 win in the second contest.

In the first game, each squad tallied a pair of runs in the opening inning as sophomore
Jason Shaul hit a two-run dinger to centerfield for the Marauders before sophomore
Taylor Branstad roped a two-run single for MSU to tie the score at 2-2.

A solo homerun from sophomore
Connor McCallum in the bottom of the third gave the Mavericks a one-run lead, but U-Mary answered with four of its own - all unearned and with two outs - in the top of the fourth.  After tying the game on a passed ball and taking the lead with an RBI-single, Shaul delivered again for the Marauders with a two-run single up the middle giving them a 6-3 advantage.

U-Mary added another in the fifth before Shaul blasted his second round-tripper of the game in the top of the sixth, which proved to be enough as the Mavericks could only muster one run in the bottom of the seventh to solidify the 8-4 final. Junior
Chris Williams (0-1) suffered his first loss of the year after allowing five runs, two earned and four hits in 3.2 innings pitched with three strikeouts. Senior
Kyal Williams (3-1) allowed four earned runs, seven hits and a walk to earn the complete-game victory.

Game two kicked off with six straight runs from the Marauders, but MSU would recover to score 11 in the final three innings en route to securing a 11-9 victory. U-Mary got things started on a solo homerun from Williams in the second inning followed by a one-run blast from Shaul, his third of the day, and a sacrifice fly from junior
Derek Somerville in the fourth. The Marauders produced two more in the sixth and another in the seventh to hold a 6-0 lead through six and a half innings, but the Mavericks were just getting started.

Minnesota State put three runs on the board in its half of the seventh including a pair on back-to-back hits from junior outfielders
Parker Sullivan and
Scott Lindner, but U-Mary would answer in the top of the eighth with a three-run homerun off the bat of Williams, his second of the afternoon. However, the Mavericks responded once more with six of their own after four consecutive extra-base hits including a two-run homerun from Lindner to knot the contest at 9-9.

After senior
Lucas Skjefte reached on a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth, junior
Todd Standish completed the comeback with a two-run blast to centerfield to capture the 11-9 win. Senior righthander
Mahlon Zimmerman picked up the win with two innings of work out of the bullpen as he improved to 4-0 on the year.

McCallum extended his hitting streak to six games with a three-for-eight performance at the plate that included three runs, two RBI, a double and a homerun. Additionally, Sullivan went four-for-nine with three runs, a double and a triple, while Lindner finished three-of-seven with three RBI, a double and a round-tripper.

The Mavericks (18-7, 7-3 NSIC) will enjoy their first action of the year in Mankato when they return home to face Augustana College Saturday April 6th. First pitch of the NSIC doubleheader is set for 1:30 p.m.
