Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Wayne, Neb. --- Head coach Matt Magers earned the 200th victory of his career in game one as No. 11 Minnesota State stretched its winning streak to 11 games by sweeping host Wayne State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition Saturday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.

The Mavericks claimed the first game 15-4 and won game two 6-0 as sophomore third baseman Connor McCallum extended his hitting streak to 16 consecutive games.

In game one, MSU took an early lead with three runs in the top of second inning started by senior second baseman Lucas Skjefte who plated junior centerfielder Parker Sullivan with a single through the left side and would later come around to score on a throwing error. The Mavericks added two more in the third after an RBI triple from sophomore Taylor Branstad, who would score two batters later on a single by Skjefte.

Wayne State cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of third with a three-run inning keyed by a two-run single to left-center off the bat of junior C.J. Nolen, but MSU would respond with ten runs in the final four innings. The Mavericks plated four in the fourth including three on back-to-back doubles from junior first baseman Stetson Olson and senior outfielder Jon Flattery and added another two in the fifth after an RBI double from sophomore catcher Nolan Johnson.

After Nolen clubbed a solo blast to right field for WSC its half of the fifth, MSU scored four more times in the last two innings to complete the 15-4 final. Senior righthander Harvey Martin improved to 6-0 by fanning four and allowing four earned runs and eight hits in six innings of work.

Maverick junior righthander Jason Hoppe was outstanding for the Purple and Gold in the second game as he recorded a season-high 14 strikeouts and surrendered only four hits while tossing his second straight complete-game victory to improve to 6-1 on the year.

MSU took an early lead in the top of the third when Johnson’s sacrifice fly to right scored Branstad, who had reached on a walk.  Junior catcher Mike Andries made it a 3-0 lead in the sixth with a two-run homer to right-center, his first of the year, then slapped an RBI single to left in the top of the seventh before Olson came around to score on a throwing error by the WSC shortstop to give MSU a five-run advantage. Johnson drove in Branstad with his third double of the day in the top of the eighth to solidify to 6-0 win.

All in all, Branstad ended the day four-for-seven with six runs, two doubles, an RBI and a triple, while Skjefte went four-for-eight with three RBI and a run scored. Johnson was also four-for-eight by added four RBI, three doubles and a pair of runs scored.
