2/26/2013 9:59:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. --- Fifth-rated Minnesota State split a pair of one-run games in a doubleheader with Bemidji State played at the Metrodome in non-conference action Tuesday night.

MSU dropped an 11-inning affair, 2-1, in the first game but rebounded for a 1-0 victory in game two.

Minnesota State struck first in game one when junior firstbaseman Stetson Olson came across on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior outfielder Scott Lindner in the bottom of the fourth, but the Beavers’ Zach Braun scored the equalizer after a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to tie the contest at 1-1.

That score held until the top of the 11th inning when Bemidji State pushed across an unearned run that proved to be the game-winner on a bases-loaded hit batter to clip the Mavericks, 2-1.  Senior righthander Nick Sutherland did not allow an earned run in five innings of relief but was tagged with the loss. Sutherland fanned five while allowing three hits and hitting two batters. Olson finished two-for-four with a run scored, while junior Todd Standish was also two-for-four and added a double.

Junior righthander Jason Hoppe tossed six scoreless innings to help propel the Mavericks to a 1-0 victory in the second game. Hoppe struck out five and scattered four hits while walking one to improve to 2-0 on the year. MSU scored the game’s lone run in the top of the fourth inning when Linder drove in his second run of the night with a sacrifice fly to right field that plated junior outfielder Parker Sullivan. Senior righthander Mahlon Zimmermann retired the Beavers in order in the seventh inning to pick up his first save of the season.

Bemidji State righthander Jaryd Marks went the distance for BSU allowing one earned run and two walks while striking out five and surrendering only one hit.

The Mavericks (4-2, 0-0 NSIC) will enjoy a nine-day break before resuming action Mar. 8 in Winter Haven, Fla., against Ohio Dominican.
