11/16/2013 4:13:00 PM

Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. --- Minnesota State surrendered three second-period goals - which eventually proved decisive - as it fell 3-2 to Bemidji State in the series finale of Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Saturday afternoon at Sanford Center.

The Mavericks now stand 3-9-0 overall and 0-8-0 in the WCHA, while the Beavers improve to 6-6-2 on the season and 3-4-1-1 in league play.

Junior Kathleen Rogan (Vancouver, B.C.) put Minnesota State in front 9:38 into the first period with her fourth power-play goal of the year on a shot from the left circle after a pass from senior Tracy McCann (Lakewood, Ohio). MSU received a pair of power-play opportunities in the initial period - compared to one for the host Beavers - and outshot BSU 10-5 in the frame.

The second period saw the Bemidji State offense explode for three goals to claim a 3-2 lead through 40 minutes of play. Junior Rachel Kelly opened the scoring when she slipped a loose puck by senior Danielle Butters (London, Ont.) at 1:24. Two MSU seniors connected to regain the lead for the Mavericks at 5:37 when Kari Lundberg (Woodbury, Minn.) hit McCann in the slot who ripped her third marker of the year past freshman Brittni Mowat on the left side. Then at 12:08, BSU sophomore Hanna Moher tied the contest once again with a wrist shot into the upper right-hand corner, before junior Kristine Grenier deflected senior Allie Duellman's power-play shot by Butters at 16:08 providing the Beavers with their first lead of the afternoon.

Minnesota State outshot BSU 10-6 and received a pair of power-play chances in the third period but was unable to net the game-tying goal, falling by one in the 3-2 final.

The Mavericks owned a 30-25 edge in shots on the day and ended one-of-three on the man advantage, while the Beavers finished one-of-three on the power-play. Mowat recorded a game-high 28 saves for BSU, and Butters added 22 of her own for the Mavericks.

MSU returns home next weekend still searching for its first point in WCHA and will battle Ohio State beginning Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:07 p.m. inside the friendly confines of All Seasons Arena.
