Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey team looks to remain unblemished in 2013 when it opens the second-half of its WCHA slate on the road against the Beavers of Bemidji State University.

Last Time on the Ice: Minnesota State kicked off the New Year with a convincing non-conference series sweep over host Lindenwood Jan. 1-2 as senior
Lauren Smith became the third-highest scorer in Maverick history with 4-3--7 in the two games. Minnesota State scored the first four goals in a 6-1 victory Tuesday evening, before completing the sweep with a 6-0 whitewash of the Lady Lions Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore
Kathleen Rogan netted her third career hat trick in the match, the most by any player in program history.
A Little Bit More On the Beavers: Bemidji State owns a 4-14-2 overall record and a 3-12-1 mark in the WCHA including a 0-9-1 record inside the Sanford Center. Last weekend, the Beavers split with St. Cloud State at the National Hockey and Events Center falling 4-2 on Friday evening before capturing a 2-0 win Saturday afternoon.
A trio of Beavers have each reached double-digit points to pace BSU offensively. Seniors Sadie Lundquist (4-7--11), Emily Erickson (3-8--11) and Mackenzie Thurston (3-8--11) are all tied with a team-high 11 points, but sophomore Natasha Kostenko (6-3--9) leads the squad with six goals. Senior goaltender Jessica Havel leads the Beavers in minutes played and has posted a 3.59 GAA and .876 save percentage in 13 contests this season.

Special Team Success: Team-wise, Minnesota State boasts the nation’s 10th-best power-play (20.8%) and 21st-rated penalty-kill (82.2%). The Mavericks are fifth in the country in combined special teams at 56.6%.
Standing Out: After the first half of the regular season, Minnesota State sits sixth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings. The Mavericks stand three points shy of fifth-place Minnesota Duluth and eight points out of the top half of the league. MSU will play every team in the conference, except Wisconsin, in its 12 remaining league games.
Third Times a Charm: Sophmore
Kathleen Rogan scored three second-period goals and added an assist in the frame on Jan. 2 en route to the third hat trick of career which set a new Maverick career record for most hat tricks by a single player.
Strong Second-Half Start: Junior
Nicole Germaine recorded a career-high three points (2-1--3) Jan. 1 before garnering a career-high two helpers Jan. 2 last week at Lindenwood. Additionally, freshman
Giulianna Pallotta used a career-high two assists for her first collegiate points in the Jan. 2 series finale.
Punching the Clock: Junior goaltender
Danielle Butters leads all of NCAA Division I (men’s and women’s) with 1,272:44 minutes played between the pipes this season. She has started all 22 games to date for the MSU and her four shutouts are just one shy of the program’s single-season record.
