Sioux Falls, S.D. -- No. 13 Minnesota State took to the road for their first conference dual away from Taylor Center and came away with a 21-19 win over No. 19 Augustana. Early pins by
Alphonso Vruno and
Drew Lexvold at 133-lbs and 141-lbs helped spark the Mavericks as they defeated their second ranked opponent in as many duals.
After
David Demo lost a 5-3 decision as 125-lbs, Vruno pinned Jeremiah Peterson at 4:57. Lexvold came right back with a pin of Brandon Charbonneau at 1:02 - the sophomore's second consecutive pin in NSIC action.
Following an MSU forfeit at 149-lbs and
Sawyer Hoffman dropping an 8-2 decision to Shawn Hatlestad at 157-lbs to square the dual up 12-12, MSU would rattle off three straight decisions as
Cody Quinn (165 lbs),
Brendan Eichmann (174 lbs) and
Aaron Norgren (184 lbs) would all triumph to take a 21-12 lead.
MSU would go on to drop the last two matches of the night, escaping with a 21-19 win.
