MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State University Athletics is celebrating Director of Athletics Kevin Buisman's 25th year with the Mavericks by highlighting 25 outstanding student-athletes who have helped shaped the departments history.  The next selection is current MSU head men's wrestling coach Brady Wilson.

The 25 for 25 Series will recognize 25 of the most accomplished and memorable Maverick student-athletes from the past quarter-century, beginning with Buisman's arrival at Minnesota State in 2002.  Over the next three months, the 25 outstanding student-athletes will be announced in no particular order with ten announced between now and the end of October, ten more named throughout November and five in December prior to the Christmas holiday.

"Brady had a remarkable competitive career, but what I appreciate most about his story is the way he approached being a teammate and what it means to be a Maverick," Buisman recalled.  "For our programs, the role of local high school athletes can't be underestimated and Brady certainly showcased in a positive way what was possible through his success on the mat.  He was also willing to sacrifice for the greater good. At one point during his career, Brady made a personal decision to give up a portion of his own scholarship so those resources could be reinvested in other members of the team. That tells you a lot about who he was as a teammate. After a tremendous coaching career at St. Cloud State, we're thrilled to have Brady back home leading Maverick Wrestling, and there is a real sense of anticipation about what the next chapter can bring."

Hailing from Faribault, Minn., Wilson competed for four seasons with the Minnesota State wrestling team (2006-10). A four-time All-American, Wilson won four consecutive regional finals to advance to the NCAA Championships. Behind a 41-win season as a freshman, he finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, before recording 36 wins as a sophomore, finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships.

"My experience at Minnesota State taught me so much about leadership—what good leadership looks like, how great leaders conduct themselves, and how they bring out the best in the people around them," Wilson said.  "I also learned the importance of building genuine relationships, being a great teammate, and being part of something bigger than yourself. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my life and coaching career. Minnesota State helped shape who I am today, and it's incredibly special to now come full circle and have the opportunity to lead the wrestling program that meant so much to me."

Wilson finished third at the NCAA Championships during his junior season as he won 33 matches. He senior campaign saw him finish second at the NCAA Championships.  His 32 wins as a senior gave him 142 victories for his career, the most ever by a Maverick.  Along the way, he helped the Mavericks win a pair of NCC Championships in 2007 and 2008 and an NSIC Championship in 2009.

He was named Minnesota State's Senior Male Athlete of the Year for the 2009-10 season and received MSU's Don Buchanan Award for most well-rounded student-athlete.  Wilson will be inducted into the Minnesota State Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 2, 2026.

"Kevin has had a tremendous impact on Minnesota State Athletics and on me personally," Wilson added.  "He has always believed in doing things the right way and creating opportunities for student-athletes to be successful in athletics, academics and life.  What I appreciate most about Kevin is his consistency, his leadership and the pride he has in Minnesota State.  To now work for him as a head coach after having been a student-athlete during his tenure makes this recognition even more meaningful.  I'm grateful for the impact he has had on Maverick Athletics and for the trust he has placed in me to lead our wrestling program."
