Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINONA, Minn. – The No. 5 Minnesota State Mavericks saw their 11-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday afternoon as Winona State won game one 6-2 before the Mavericks responded with a 2-1 game-two victory.

Despite facing a 2-0 deficit after five innings of game one, Minnesota State was able to force extra innings scoring one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings as senior Pat Dockendorf connected on an RBI single while junior Mike Eckhart added a fielder’s choice RBI the following inning.

However, the Mavericks would see their 11-game winning streak come to a halt in the first extra inning as Winona State loaded the bases before Seth McMullen stepped up to the plate and unloaded on a walk-off grand slam as the Warriors took game one, 6-2.

Despite a solid outing which included 11 strikeouts, sophomore Tyler Ockuly picked up his third loss of the season after allowing six runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings of work.

MSU was unable to get the bats going in game one as the Mavericks recorded just four hits with Dockendorf leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

The Mavericks would shake off the game-one loss and strike first in game two as MSU took a 2-0 lead after two innings as sophomore Cory Glieden drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first run before senior Matt Odegaard would score on a Warrior throwing error for the Mavericks second run.

Despite allowing a run which cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning, MSU was able to hold on for the victory as sophomore TJ Larson earned his second win of the season after allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven batters in six innings pitched.

Junior Nick Sutherland earned his conference-leading 12th save of the season after allowing no runs or hits in the final inning in relief of Larson.

MSU once again recorded just four hits in game two as freshman Nolan Johnson, Eckhart, Odegaard and freshman Connor McCallum each recorded one hit.

With the midweek split, the Mavericks are now 36-8 overall and 24-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Winona State goes to 27-18 overall and 22-12 in the NSIC.

Minnesota State completes regular-season action this weekend when it travels to Fayette, Iowa, for a pair of doubleheaders against Upper Iowa University.  Both Saturday and Sunday’s games are slated to start at noon.
